Pliva (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Pliva river, with its extraordinary transparency and spectacular richness, represents a small piece of paradise for fly-fishing anglers. This sport becomes increasingly popular in our country like it is abroad and understands fishing on an artificial fly. After the capture the fish is released back to water, so that its life is prolonged and fishermen get more chances for good fishing in the future.

Water temperatures are never over 9°C, not even in July and August, the warmest months of the year. Underwater flora and fauna are a special story, and that is the source of this river's magic. This river has an abundance of food, and big grayling and brownies don't need to go to the surface looking for food. Sometimes, keeping all this in mind, fly fishing on this amazing river can be frustrating. Everything will depend on your knowledge, your approach to this river and the techniques of fly fishing you use. Rods we recommend are mid-flex, 2,75 m ( 9´), and AFTMA 4 or 5.

Prices for permits are 30 euros a day. 75 euros 3 days
Fishing at the trophy part of the River. Maximum allowed is 8 persons. The price for one person is € 40.

Little Drau (Austria)

The Little Drau side stream has a character which is between a karst and mountain stream. Although remote, a path leads along the stream, which only fly fishermen may use. The largest advantage of the Kleine Drau is the fact, that the water level stays always the same, even after the heaviest rainfalls or thunderstorms. So the Kleine Drau remains in top condition for fishing, while all other rivers in the region may be high and dirty. The stream is very diverse and two water storage areas add to the variety. The food supply for the fish has a tremendous variety to: from the May fly to massive numbers gammarus. Due to its clarity fly fishing the Kleine Drau is a real challenge. The reward may be tremendously beautiful fish, there are some trophy sized grayling, brook and rainbow trout. The “fish of the year 2007” was a 55 cm long grayling from the Kleine Drau!

Vellach (Austria)

At the foot of the 2.142 m high Mt. Obir you will find the beautiful Vellach river running through a breathtaking landscape. The insects like ephemera, caddis- and stone flies are plenty. Therefore the numbers of big brook-, rainbow trout and grayling are very high as well. Especially in the morning- and evening hours the avid fly fisherman can experience fantastic dry fly-fishing. Also nymphs produce tremendous success on the Vellach river. Fishing this way may lead to “very big” surprises: Since the fish from the Drau river into the Vellach has opened, there are not only a lot more graylings in the river - the population of huchen (“Danube salmon”) improved dramatically too. When fishing with nymphs, or when the water level is higher, with streamers, there´s a good chance that such a "Danube salmon" may hit the fly. You won´t forget that fight for the rest of your life! When the water level is low wading boots are perfect. But generally light breathable waders are more comfortable, especially in the summertime. There are path along the banks of the river for easy access in most parts of the fishing district. In spring 2006 a certified hatchery opened exclusively for the stocking program in the Vellach river and Kleine Drau side stream.

Loue (France)

This piece of land, French border with Switzerland, the beauty of the area, "les ombres" blue fin and the legendary trout "tigers" of the Jura, makes a route always exciting and interesting to spend a nice weekend in peacefully and relax. From whatever side we approach the river can be seen easily, even having crystal clear water, many grayling fin blue "shadows" for the French and trout, the legendary and famous tiger trout, fish species that is present throughout the Jura area of France / Switzerland.

The Upper Loue

As soon as it rises, the River Loue sends its turbulent water into a deep canyon, and one has to travel to the village of Lods before the water becomes calm once again. It is the upstream section, in the Noailles Gorges, that the river is at its wildest and most beautiful. The Loue then carries on as far as the village of Ornans, where it widens out, and over the next few kilometres, it seems to change after every bend, offering a succession of fishing spots abundant in trout.

The Lower Loue

Just below Ornans, the meanders of the Loue are still rather rapid, and the private fishing spots, such as the famous La Piquette, are dotted along the next few kilometres of the river. The most interesting sections downstream of here are to be found above Arc et Senans. The highlight of these stretches of river, which are managed by four angling associations, are the beautiful grayling. You will also find lovely great trout that you will be able to sight fish with nymphs.

For a weekend of three days on the Loue we spend about € 250.00 uro with hotel accommodation, fishing permit, which varies depending on the area you wish to attend (free or commercial), lunch and dinner.

Gmundner Traun (Austria)

The Gmundner Traun, the part of the Traun that is running out of the Traun Lake is known as the craddle of Austrian fly fishing.  People from all over the world travelled to Gmunden to learn from Hans Gebetsroither and to fish the mighty but usually always gin clear Gmundner Traun. After the building of the power station in Gmunden (the needle weir was replaced by a dam) the fish from the Traun lake were not able to run in and out the river any more and what was once one of the best trout and grayling rivers in the world is nowadays only a shadow of what it was like before.

The large wild brown trout (salmo trutta labrax lacustris) that entered the river to spawn before the dam was built cannot be caught there any moe. Today the river is dependent on fish stocking as also the reproduction of the grayling seems to be not working any more. Nevertheless the Freunde der Gmundner Traun, an international fly fishing club, who are the present tenants of the river do their best to make good fly fishing possible. The Gmundner Traun holds trout, grayling, some huge pike and different cyprinid species. It is still a river which attracts a lot of fishermen from different countries and I always enjoy to fish it when I am in Upper Austria.

The grayling is the “queen of the stream” and the fish shows this in its gorgeous looking and elegant behaviour (really comes out if you have ever seen a large grayling jump when hooked). The presentation has to be very accurate and your fly has to be well served upstream. I found out that a good serving of the fly is much more important than the selection of the “match the hatch fly“, but size does matter. If you see a grayling that is nipping flies from the surface you have a high chance to hook the fish. If the grayling refuse to take your fly, try a smaller one.

Klokot (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

The Klokot is a tributary to the Una. The 5-kilometre long stretch of water is very beautiful and particularly suited for fly-fishing enthusiasts. There are large populations of grayling, brown trout, rainbow trout and pike and it is not uncommon to hook a brown trout weighing up to 5 kilos.

The river is up to four meters deep. The most attractive part of our fishing district is close to the river spring, and therefore, it is a cold and clean water with a lot of oxigen, a real paradise for grayling and brown trout. The policy of our management is to eliminate the rainbow trout from the river, as it is not autohctonos species of the river, and at the same time , to enrich the water with the grayling and the brown trout by continuous fish ranching.

The water temperature: 6-14 C°. Fish available: rainbow trout, river trout, grayling, and in the lower stream of Klokot there are pike fish and graft. This fishing resort is open from 01.03. to 31.12. It is allowed to take one fish (rainbow trout min. 45cm.) Representation of fish: 60% rainbow trout, 30% river trout, 10% graylin.

Daily license price: 25 EUR

Ribnik is relatively undeveloped region with a high potential in developing country-side tourism, fishing, and hunting.

The Ribnik river springs from under the Srnetica mountain near the vilage Gornji Ribnik. It springs from two strong springs whose volumes varies between 1.5 - 2.5 m3/s.

Una (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

The Una spring, also known as Vrelo Une, is located at the north-eastern slopes of the Stazbenica mountain in Croatia, and flows through towns and villages of Martin Brod,Kulen Vakuf,Bihac, Bosanska Kupa and Otoka,Novi Grad,Kostajnica and Dubica. It flows into the river Sava. The main tributaries are the Unac, the Sana the Klokot and the Krusnica.

The fish except a few rare exceptions, and of course the Danube salmon Hucho Hucho (in the lower part), not great but good quality, native brown trout and grayling. There is also some rainbow trout
May be good fishing with dry fly, or you can use the nymph or streamer. We recommend you keep back at least 4 or 5 Sedge large to capture the largest specimens. Present caddis and stonefly
The average depth is about 1.5 meters in many places there is no difficulty in crossing the River.
You can fish in the reserve or free (where you can hold the fish)

Unac (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

The river Unac has the attributes of the classic mountain river. Not very wide, with a depth ranging from 30 cm to 3.5 meters. Clean, well-oxygenated water is the refuge of numerous specimens of trout and graylings.Trout can be caught using dry flies, Nymphs and streamers.

Many trout, especially rainbow trout, are the result of continued inputs from neighboring farms. In some areas the river is so full of fish that can easily reach the 30 catches. My advice is to approach it with dry fly  with rod 8'o 9 'feet and line 3 or 4. Price for one day is 40 euros and 78 euros for 3 days
